In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Brossart quarterback Jacob Leicht threw a touchdown pass and then recovered a fumble as a defensive safety to give his team a 13-8 win over Lloyd on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021.

When the two teams were Class 2A district rivals, Lloyd had a 4-0 record against Brossart. This was the first game between them after Brossart returned to Class 1A in 2015 based on enrollment.

Lloyd took an 8-6 lead in the first quarter when Brossart’s defense gave up its first touchdown of the season, but the Mustangs came back to win the home game and run their record to 5-0.

Brossart running back Jed Martin scored the winning touchdown. He caught a short pass from Leicht and made it to the end zone on a stunning 60-yard play with 3:55 remaining in the fourth quarter.

That was the second TD pass of the game for Leicht, who had 105 yards passing and 66 yards rushing. Martin caught two passes for 68 yards, rushed for 45 yards and completed an option pass for 36 yards.

Brossart remained undefeated until a season-ending 48-7 loss to Raceland in the Class 1A region finals. The Mustangs finished with a 12-1 record under coach Paul Wiggins Jr.
