Reagan Ramage said the first person she texted after winning the Region 7 girls high school golf tournament on Tuesday was Ben Carter, who shot the low score in the Region 7 boys tournament on Monday.

Ramage is a senior at Cooper and Carter is a senior at St. Henry. They started dating a few weeks ago and now have matching gold medals as region medalists. This is the fifth straight year that Ramage has won the girls region title and she did it by shooting a 7-under 64 on the Pioneer course at Kenton County.

“I was pretty confident going in, but I’ve been really working lately on keeping a level head out on the course and just going out and enjoying playing golf,” Ramage said. “I’m missing school and I get to play golf with my best fields, so I was really focused on going out and having a good time. And I think that helps a lot.”

After shooting 3-under on the front nine, Ramage said she got an eagle on the par-4 No. 10 hole and birdies on No. 11 and No. 18 to finish with a 64 that tied for the best score of her career.

Last week, Ramage shot 5-under 66 on the same Pioneer course to win the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Championships. She needed a couple of good scores to boost her confidence after placing sixth in the Kentucky All-State Tournament earlier this month.

“I didn’t have a great finish at all-state,” she said.  “I really had high expectations for myself in that tournament and I was pretty disappointed with how I played. I think how I played in conference and how I played in region got my confidence back and really gives me a good outlook on how I can do in state.”

As an individual qualifier for the first round of the state playoffs, Ramage will play in a tournament on Wednesday Oct. 2 at Shelbyville Country Club. If she places among the top 15 scorers in that tournament, she’ll advance to the state championship tournament.

Ryle and Notre Dame placed first and second in the Region 7 teams standings to qualify for the first-round tournament at Shelbyville Country Club. Teams with the three lowest totals in that round will move on to the state championship tournament.

Ryle won the region team title with a 325 that was 36 strokes better than Notre Dame’s total.

The Raiders’ top four scorers were Anika Okuda, who was individual runner-up for the second straight year with a 1-over 72, Lacey Wilson (80), Elizabeth Dickson (83) and Nikaia Cornett (90). They all played on Ryle’s region runner-up team last year.

This is the first time since 2018 that Ryle has won a girls region golf title. Cooper was region champion the last four years.

At the Region 8 boys tournament on Tuesday, Highlands seniors Hank Shick and Nate Surrey both shot 1-under 69 to tie for first place and led their their team to its fifth consecutive Region 8 championship at Eagle Creek Country Club.

Shick took medalist honors for the third straight year by making a birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Surrey. The Bluebirds finished with a four-player total of 294 that included a 74 by Oliver Golden and 82 by Alex Race.

Brossart finished second in the Region 8 team standings with a 304 total. The top four scorers for the Mustangs were Cole Bricking (73), Mitchell Harden (74), Luke Bertsch (75) and Parker Mulberry (82).

Both teams advance to a first-round tournament in the state playoffs on Monday at Shelbyville Country Club. The top three scoring teams in that round will be included in the state championship tournament.

One of the individual qualifiers for Monday’s tournament is Talen Beane of Campbell County, who placed eighth on the Region 8 leaderboard with a 75.
