    Life Learning Center reports on successful 10th annual fundraiser, the 2024 High Stakes Gala

    Life Learning Center (LLC) recently hosted its 10th annual fundraiser, the 2024 High Stakes Gala, at Turfway Park Racing and Gaming in Florence, welcoming over 350 guests.

    The event raised a $429,000 to support LLC’s mission to reduce recidivism and build a healthier workforce. This year’s Gala not only saw the highest attendance but also set a record for donations during the Paddle Raise.

    LLC is dedicated to helping individuals overcome the challenges of poverty, unemployment, and hopelessness, empowering individuals to create sustainable life change through its life skills curriculum, career readiness programming and placement, and personalized care resources — items such as food, clothing and transportation.

    The organization provides solutions that break the cycles of poverty, unemployment, incarceration, and Substance Use Disorder (SUD), by helping people and their families. In collaboration with local communities and Probation and Parole boards, LLC offers a unique pathway to re-entry, allowing participants to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society. In 2023, the recidivism rate of LLC graduates was 6%, a stark contrast to the national average of 83%. In addition, 2023 graduates put $7.2 million back into the economy with an average salary of $19.50/hour.

    Evan Millward, professional storyteller and longtime Cincinnati anchor/reporter emceed the event, while the Right Reverend John C. Iffert, Bishop of the Diocese of Covington, delivered the invocation. H. David Wallace, CEO and chairman of the board for Heritage Bank served as live auctioneer.

    LLC President and CEO Alecia Webb-Edgington, along with Board Chairman William P. Butler, shared updates on the organization’s growth and future expansion at a local and regional level. Guests also enjoyed live and silent auctions, a “Ribbon Pull” raffle, and entertainment by Pones, Inc. and the Charlie Suits Big Band.

    The evening was highlighted by a tribute to Paul and Mary Hemmer for their recognizing their contributions to the community. The spotlight also illuminated the journey of Lucy Eades, a LLC success story with a personal connection to the evening’s honorees.

    Eades shared her personal story, underscoring the impact of LLC’s programs. With the organization’s support, Eades regained custody of her youngest child and found a career path she is passionate about.

    “Life Learning Center helped me with everything—from getting a license to finding a job,” Eades said duirng a video spotlight. “They taught me how to save money, how to be part of the community, and how to live honestly. Life Learning Center changed my life tremendously—they were always there to help.”
