Highlands senior Nate Surrey shot 2-over 74 in the final round of the boys state golf tournament Wednesday and tied for 19th place with a 36-hole total of 7-over 151 at Bowling Green Country Club.

In the final round, Surrey had four birdies and six bogeys. He was one of several golfers who carded a better score than they did in the first round.

But Surrey finished eight strokes behind three co-medalists who competed in a sudden death playoff that Charlie Spiller of Lexington Catholic won on the third hole to take the individual state title.

Madison Central repeated as boys team champion with a 596 total that was four strokes better than Louisville Trinity. St. Henry finished eighth in the nine-team standings with a 649.

Here are two-round scores for other local golfers: 157 — Talen Beane (Campbell County) 80-77. 158 — Ben Carter (St. Henry) 81-77. 160 — Will Carter (St. Henry) 83-77, Hayden Li (Ryle) 81-79. 161 — Joseph Mangine (CovCath) 84-77, Will Hammond (St. Henry) 82-79. 171 — Jake Montgomery (St. Henry) 83-88, 175 — Parker Isaacs (St. Henry) 88-87.

The girls state tournament will be played Friday and Saturday at the same site. Five local golfers are among the list of individual state qualifiers. One of them is Cooper senior Reagan Ramage, who placed fourth last year and fifth in 2022 to earn first-team all-state honors.
