The Ion Center for Violence Prevention announced Shannon Berry will be honored with the organization’s Icon Award for exceptional service as the longest-serving volunteer in the Center’s history. The Ion Center’s Icon Award recognizes those who go above and beyond for the agency and the survivors they serve.

Berry has dedicated over a decade as a Hospital Advocate with the Ion Center, providing unwavering support to victims and survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Her role involves meeting survivors in the ER, guiding them through the medical examination and police investigation, and assisting in the development of comprehensive service plans to ensure their ongoing care and protection. Berry’s compassionate approach and her ability to establish trusting relationships with those she assists have made her an invaluable asset to the Center.

“Shannon Berry is the embodiment of our Icon Award,” said Christy Burch, Ion Center CEO. “Her heart and dedication has changed the lives of survivors and left a lasting legacy at Ion Center. We are honored to present her with this award.”

In addition to her role as a Hospital Advocate, Berry serves on the Development Committee for the Ion Center, contributing her expertise to the organization’s growth and sustainability. She is also embarking on a new path in Court Advocacy, where she will provide support and advocacy to victims of abuse or crime as they navigate the legal system.

In addition to her work at the Ion Center, Berry previously served as a member of the Legislation and Policy Committee for End Slavery Cincinnati, which plays a crucial role in advocating for victims of human trafficking.

When she’s not volunteering, Berry serves as the Director of Client Engagement at Advent Media Group in downtown Cincinnati, where she has worked for over 11 years.

Beyond her advocacy work, Berry is a 2017 graduate of the FBI Cincinnati Citizens Academy, where she continues to contribute as the Publisher of their monthly publication, which is distributed to over 800 graduates. Her involvement with the FBI has allowed her to stay closely connected with law enforcement, attending briefings, tours, and promoting the agency as an admirable career path. Berry’s enthusiasm for learning and her dedication to public service have taken her to Quantico, Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, and FBI Headquarters, where she has gained valuable insights into the agency’s operations.

Berry’s dedication, whether through her volunteer work with The Ion Center or her involvement with other organizations, demonstrates her deep commitment to social justice and community service, and she strives to make a positive impact in the community. She lives in Northern Kentucky with her two children, and enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling.

Berry will be honored with the Icon award at the Ion Center’s 16th annual Toast for Hope on Friday, October 25 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at Drees Pavilion. For more information about Toast for Hope, please visit https://onecau.se/tfh24 .
