The event, created when regional young professionals expressed interest in joining local nonprofit boards but weren’t sure where to get started, is a way to connect nonprofit executives with the region’s future leaders to recruit for board opportunities. The 7th Annual Bourbon & Boards will provide young professionals with the opportunity to learn about available leadership positions, expectations and how board-level engagement can support personal and professional growth.

The event will also involve a panel discussion regarding the impact and importance of serving on boards.

    Scheduled speakers include:

    • Christy Burch, CEO at The Ion Center for Violence Prevention
    • Lauren Copeland, Senior Director at Brighton Center
    • Hank Heidrich, Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch and NKYP Chair (moderator)

“Our region is filled with young professionals eager to contribute to their communities. This event helps to connect these talented individuals with outstanding member organizations all while enjoying bourbon samples from some of the region’s finest distillers,” said Kyle Frizzell, Director of Events and NKYP for the NKY Chamber. “We’re excited to connect our region’s emerging leaders and offer them the chance to hear directly from nonprofit executives about the roles available and how serving on a board can positively influence both their careers and the communities they serve.”

    Nonprofit participants include:

    • 1N5
    • Brighton Center
    • Campbell County YMCA

“I know from personal experience how being engaged with local nonprofits can have a profound impact on the communities those nonprofits serve, as well as within my own life and career,” said Hank Heidrich, Financial Advisor at Merrill Lynch and the 2024-25 NKYP Chair. “From expanding one’s network to creating good in the community and growing professional skills – we need our young leaders to step into more leadership roles to ensure our nonprofits remain strong and secure for years to come.”
