Northfield winter sports athletes and coaches rack up the awards

The recently complete winter sports season was filled with many outstanding performances and success stories for Northfield High School athletics.

Some of those highlights included:

The Northfield boys hockey team (23-6-2, 14-1-0 Big 9) captured another Big 9 Conference championship along with a Section 1A title and a second consecutive trip to the MSHSL Class A tournament. Northfield ended its season with a number eight ranking in the final Class A state poll for 2023-24.

The Northfield girls hockey team finished its season ranked eighth in the state’s Class AA poll. The Raiders were 27-3-0, 13-0-0 Big 9 and won both a conference championship along with a first place finish at the 2024 Section 1AA tournament. Northfield also advanced to the MSHSL Class AA tournament in 2024.

Northfield boys swimming and diving team capped a stellar season by winning the Section 1AA championship and placed fourth at the 2024 MSHSL state championship. At the 2023-24 Big 9 championships, Northfield placed second behind Rochester Century.

The NHS wrestling advanced seven wrestlers to the state tournament this season and also placed second in theSection 1AAA team tournament, while the Northfield girls Alpine ski team won first place at this year’s Big 9 Conference meet and the Northfield Hiliners Dance Team qualified for the state meet in the jazz competition thanks to a third place finish at the Section 1AA meet.
