    Northfield girls finish 1st at Faribault Invite

    Northfield opened its season with a first-place finish at the Faribault COED Invitational on April 4.

    The Raiders compiled 277 points, which was well ahead of second-place Faribault (180) and third-place Tri-City United (127). Others at the meet included Austin (99), Albert Lea (60), West Lutheran (46) and the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (4).

    In the 100 meters, Hubers placed second at 13.77 and Beaham added second place finishes in the 100 hurdles at 17.19 and in the 300 hurdles at 50.90. Northfield’s top finisher in the 200 meters was Peterson at 28.81.

    Enfield and Madow scored the top two places in the 400 meters with times of 1:06.46 and 1:06.80 respectively. The Raiders also added two top finishes in the 800 meters with Patrick winning the race at 2:41.18 and Quaas placing second at 2:42.42.

    Quaas returned in the 1600 meters and claimed the top spot at 5:43.85, while Claire Fobord placed second in the 3200 meters to lead Northfield with a time of 19:19.79.

    In the relay events, Northfield placed second in the 4x100 as the team of Fleming, Lippert, Peterson and Hubers posted a time of 54.90. Northfield also placed third in the 4x200, while adding first place finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. The 4x400 team of Beaham, Meadow, Prensa Aupetit and Elizabeth Driscoll won with a time of 4:31.60. The 4x800 team of Enfield, Anna Forbord, Claire Fobord and Hauck won with a time of 10:30.62.

    In the field events, French placed first in the discus with a throw of 109-02 and Prensa Aupetit was third at 99-03. French also added a first place throw in the shot put at 34-11.50 and Inga Johnson was second at 34-09.50.

    Madow finished first in the high jump at 5-00 and Mahal was second at 4-10, while Sydney Livingston was first in the long jump at 14-05.50 and Hailey Parish was second in the triple jump at 31-05.00. Northfield’s power in the pole vault was on display as the Raiders won the top three spots in that event. Nesseth placed first at 9-00.00, Gottfried was second at 8-06.00 and Petricka was third at 7-06.00.

    The Raiders will return to action on Friday, April 12 with a trip to Mankato East, which is one of the top teams in the Big 9 this season. Others teams expected to battle for the top spot in the league will be Rochester Mayo, Rochester Century along with Winona.

    The Section 1AA teams to watch this season include Winona, Faribault and Byron, which finished in the top three spots at the 2023 section meet respectively.

    “I would love to be able to crack into the top three teams in the sections and compete with these great programs,” Smith said.
