    Northfield girls golf takes 1st in Rochester

    The No. 11 ranked Northfield High School girls golf team earned a first-place finish at the recent Big 9 Conference tournament that was held at the Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester on Thursday, April 25.

    The Raiders charted a team score of 341 to win the title, while Red Wing placed second at 351 followed in third place by Owatonna (352). The remainder of the field at the Big 9 Tournament included Austin (355), Rochester Mayo (363), Albert Lea (370), Winona (374) and John Marshall (375).

    Karina Johnson led the Raiders with a score of 76, which gained her medalist honors at the tournament. Teammate Emerson Garlie placed second at the tournament with a score of 78. Annika Johnson finished with a round of 90 in 17th place and Danica Sorem placed 33rd with a 97. Alivia Kortuem (100/43rd place) and Annalisa Larson (105/53rd) completed the NHS scorecard.

    Northfield will continue its schedule on Wednesday, May 1 with a trip to Lake City for a tournament at The Jewel Golf Club. On Thursday, May 2, Northfield will be back at the Eastwood Golf Course for a triangle meet against Rochester Mayo and Owatonna before playing another Big 9 triangle meet against Faribault and Winona on Monday, May 6 at the Faribault Golf and Country Club.

    Of note, the 2024 Big 9 championship tournament will be held on Monday, May 20 at the Northfield Golf Club. In addition, Garlie was ranked 11th in the most recent state of Minnesota high school girls golf poll released by the Minnesota Golf Association on April 22. As a team, Northfield was ranked 11th in the MGA state poll.

    Victory in Lakeville

    On Monday, April 29, Northfield added another title to its list of 2024 accomplishments, as it charted a first-place finish at the Lakeville North Inivte at Brackett’s Crossing Golf Club.

    The Raiders led the team scoring with a 346, while Lake City placed second at 353 and Byron was third at 357. Eastview placed fourth at 360 followed by Big 9 rival Owatonna (367), Rosemount (368) and Lakeville North (375).

    Emerson Garlie and Annika Johnson tied for third place on the leaderboard with scores of 83, while Karina Johnson placed fifth with a score of 85. Danica Sorem placed 21st with a score of 96, while Alivia Kortuem placed 31st and Annalisa Larson placed 44th for the Raiders.
