    Northfield baseball extends win streak to 5

    In between a pair of games that were washed out due to the weather, the Northfield High School baseball team extended its current win streak to five games with a 6-2 victory at Rochester Century on Wednesday, May 1.

    In a game that saw Northfield outhit Century by a 10-5 margin, the Raiders fell behind by one run in the first inning before they tied the game with a run in the third inning. Northfield then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning.

    In the top of the seventh inning, Northfield collected four runs to ice the victory at 6-2. Grant Hutton was the pitcher of record for Northfield with two hits and one run allowed over five innings pitched. He also had seven strikeouts in the game, while Eli Mikkelson and Seth Thompson each provided an inning of relief work.

    Austin Koep, who has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at St. Cloud State in 2025, connected on two hits and posted three RBIs in the game, while Tegan Mellgren, a St. John’s recruit, had three hits in the game.

    Aidan Molesky also had two hits in the game, while Seth Thompson had two walks and two RBIs and Aaron Reisetter added one hit and two RBIs.

    The Raiders (5-3, 5-3 Big 9) had its game slated for April 30 at Albert Lea postponed and their non-conference game on Saturday, May 4 at home against Stewartville was cancelled due to the weather. The game against Albert Lea has been rescheduled for May 22.

    Northfield was scheduled to play at Austin on Tuesday, May 7 before traveling to Winona for a doubleheader on Thursday, May 9. On Friday, May 10, Northfield will host Tri-City United at 5:00 p.m. and on Monday, May 13, Northfield will play at New Ulm.
