Former council member Zweifel announces mayoral run

Former Northfield City Council member and Carleton leader Erica Zweifel announced in a release Tuesday, May 14 that she will run for Northfield mayor in the 2024 election.

“I am excited to announce my candidacy for mayor of Northfield,” Zweifel stated in the release. “My campaign will focus on fiscal responsibility, economic development and community engagement.

“Fiscal responsibility will include prioritizing our capital improvement plan items through budget considerations and tax implications for projects.

“Economic development must include improving Northfield’s housing stock at all levels and increasing the tax base.

“Community engagement must be improved so citizen comments are taken earlier in the process and can be incorporated into our local projects.

“I look forward to hearing from you as I campaign, I welcome any and all dialogue. It would be my pleasure to serve the community of Northfield again.”

Zweifel served for 12 years as Northfield’s Ward 3 councilor (2009-2020). The Zweifel family has lived in Northfield for over 30 years. Erica currently works at Carleton’s Center for Community and Civic Engagement where she is the assistant director for community impact.
