Beumer announces Ward 2 Northfield City Council run

Northfield native Chad Beumer announced May 14 he will be running for the Ward 2 City Council seat in Northfield in the 2024 election.

“I am by all accounts a ‘Townie,’” he said, “born and raised just outside of town. I graduated Northfield High School in 1991. Upon graduation, I left for Marine Corps boot camp in San Diego.

“I spent the next four years on active duty for the Marines. Upon an honorable discharge from the Marines in June of 1995, I joined the MN Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in June of 2001.

“I have worked in construction since 1995 in one way or another. For the last 20 years, I have been a job supervisor for three different builders. I’m currently working for a high end custom home builder based out of Minnetonka.

“I’m choosing to run not for me but for the people of Northfield. I feel as though their voice has been lost at city hall and intend to change that. I think they are listened to but not heard. I’d like to host meetings either quarterly or a minimum of twice a year for the people of my ward to come and ask questions and voice their concerns.

“Fiscal responsibility is a high priority for me as well. We need to keep our city looking good and in good repair with our streets and infrastructure but need to do so responsibly. We need to focus on what is needed vs. what is wanted. Double digit levy increases year after year isn’t sustainable for any of us. We somehow have to learn how to compromise and come up with more affordable ways to get the projects done.

“I’d also like to focus on economic development with more affordable housing and increasing our industrial tax base.”

Beumer is joined in the Ward 2 race by fellow challengers Edward Malnar and Emy Farley .
