Citing health reasons, Noel Stratmoen has submitted a letter temporarily resigning from the Northfield School Board.

According to the letter, Northfield School District Superintendent Matt Hillmann sent out Monday, Minnesota law allows for this temporary resignation option, similar to a medical leave of absence that someone would take in the workplace.

Hillmann explained that the district is in the process of appointing a replacement. The person who replaces Stratmoen would serve until he could return to the board or through the end of his elected term in December.

Stratmoen was first elected to the board in 1980 and currently serves as the longest serving school board member in Minnesota.

“Noel is an exemplary public servant — a legend in our community and the state,” said Hillmann. “Please hold him and his wife, Lois, in your hearts as he continues to recover.”
