An Earth-friendly business aimed at reducing plastics in area landfills has opened a cozy, clean and conscious store in downtown Northfield. Homebody Refill Market, 211 Division St. S., is a marketplace for refillable, low-waste cleaning products and personal care goods. Minneapolis man sentenced for role in fatal car-bike crash that killed former Northfield pastor
A Minneapolis man was sentenced on Wednesday for his role in a 2021 vehicle crash that killed a former Northfield priest in Rosemount, according to a release from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office. Trejean Derrell Curry, 28, was sentenced to five years of probation by Judge Dannia Edwards. He was also ordered to serve 40 hours of community work service and serve a 150-day jail sentence that can be served in 30-day increments over the period of his probation. On Thursday morning, 20 Northfielders toured U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on a bus trip sponsored by FiftyNorth. The group enjoyed the nearly two-hour tour of the $990 million facility designed to resemble a Viking ship. Greenvale Park students celebrate administrative assistants
Mrs. Danni Schroeder’s fourth-grade class at Greenvale Park Elementary decided to surprise the secretaries and kickstart Administrative Assistant Day. They proclaimed Renee Malecha and Kari Engle as Wonder Women of the school. One by one, the students marched into the office. They each carried red, yellow and blue crepe paper streamers. Mrs. Schroeder decorated their desks with the streamers while the students personally told Ms. Renee and Ms. Kari how much they meant to them, and handed them a personalized note. The fourth graders also brought in helium balloons, a cape and mask for each secretary, and Cakewalk chocolate cupcakes. All enthusiastically agree Greenvale Park Elementary is lucky to have Wonder Woman Renee Malecha and Wonder Woman Kari Engle as their secretaries.
CAC and Rebound team on effort to add new workforce housing units in Northfield
Amid a dearth of affordable housing, the Northfield City Council is backing an effort by the Community Action Center and Rebound Partners to bring eight multi-family workforce housing units to town with the help of state funding. The Northfield City Council will hold a public hearing and consider the terms of sale of the property at 115 5th St. W., better known as the former Northfield News building, to Loon Liquors on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 801 Washington St. The city negotiated sale price is $960,000 based on an independent property appraisal.
