Carleton moves to divest from fossil fuels after years of student, faculty calls
A decade of student-led protests and activism at Carleton College finally paid off. On Feb. 9, Carleton President Alison Byerly and Chair of the Board of Trustees Wally Weitz announced the board voted to “eliminate all direct holdings of fossil-fuel companies” in the school’s endowment fund and will liquidate indirect holdings by 2030. The Northfield gymnastics team made the trip down to Owatonna for the Section 1AA championship meet held at Owatonna High School and it resulted in two Raiders punching their tickets to the Class AA state individual meet. During the month of February at Greenvale Park Elementary, kindergarten students focused on kindness. Each month, the school focuses on a character trait as part of its social and emotional curriculum. Greenvale Park Elementary Kindergarten teacher Tiffany Kortbein explained that as a grade level, they felt one way to practice and show kindness would be to collect items for the Northfield Food Shelf. “This week the kindergarteners celebrated the 100th day of school and in honor of that our goal was 100 items for the food shelf.
