Satellite library at Northfield Community Resource Center quietly opens to public
With the quiet opening of The Oasis last month, Northfield library users won’t have to head to the main downtown branch to use a computer, put a book on hold or return a book. Instead, the compact, primarily self-service satellite branch is located in a south central Northfield neighborhood with a large parking lot to the north. Tucked into an elbow of the Community Resource Center at 1651 Jefferson Parkway,...

Northfield girls basketball team to be led by young but experienced players
It may sound like a contradiction of terms, but experienced youth may be the best way to describe the roster for the 2023-24 Northfield High School girls basketball team. On paper, the Raiders appear to be in a rebuilding year, with just two returning seniors and and 11 sophomores and freshmen on the team. But looks can be deceiving, as Northfield brings back several players who saw considerable varsity playing time during the 2022-23 season. ...

Going the distance a challenge for CAC executive director
Usually the phrase “0 to 100” refers to miles per hour in a motorized vehicle. Originally from the forested environment of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, Wopata, born in 1984, now lives in Dundas. ...
Retiring ophthalmologist leaves behind visionary practice
He’s closing the office. That’s how Dr. Ronald Linde prefers to describe it, rather than using the word retire. Linde, who has been an ophthalmologist in Northfield since 1975, will be shutting the door to his nearly 50-year practice at the end of the year. The office he’s closing is small and cozy, with the reception area filled with art, pottery, glass frames, knick knacks — like a framed check...

Northfield's beginning mahjong players addicted to tile game
Characters, dots, flowers, bamboo, winds, dragons and jokers, oh my. The white tiles make a clicking sound when they are placed on the rack and a dull thud when they are placed on the board.
