Dundas City Hall transformed with a century of local memorabilia
Inside the room where the Dundas City Council meets each month, members of the 100-yea- old Dundas Women’s Study Club set up a museum of club booklets, photographs and memorabilia last Saturday. The exhibit spanned the years 1924 to today and was arranged in 10 exhibits showcasing each decade of the study club’s existence. Current and past members, along with their families and guests enjoyed the celebration, which also featured two performances at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. of an original skit “School Daze” first performed by an early member in the 1940s. Special coffee mugs noting the centennial were for sale for $10. All current study club members who greeted visitors, handed out name tags and performed in the skit wore special carnation corsages donated by Judy’s Floral Design of Northfield.

Nearly two dozen city streets, county highways and township roads remain closed throughout Rice County due to floodwaters. The number seems unprecedented. Closures include several streets in Faribault along the Cannon and Straight Rivers. More rain is possible later today. Exactly what we don’t need. However, Faribault city officials noted both rivers began to drop Monday morning. As inconvenient as these road closures may be, especially to locals, it’s nothing compared to the flooding of businesses, homes, campgrounds and more, especially in neighboring Waterville. The...

With the support of all but one member, Northfield’s City Council has moved ahead with a $20.9 million (plus interest) proposal to build a brand new ice arena, after years of intense debate and concerns that the current arena had become obsolete and outlived its useful life. While both the city of Dundas and the Northfield School Board formally endorsed the plan last month, funding from taxpayers in the city of Northfield will be the primary funding source, due to Northfield’s population and the limited...

Valley Grove to celebrate past and future weddings with June event
When Meg Otten and Randy Malecha were planning their wedding at Valley Grove Church, Otten’s siblings who lived in Connecticut, Texas and Utah thought they were coming to the North Pole. Perhaps they got that idea based on the wedding date: ten days before Christmas. Thus, the church was already beautifully decorated for Christmas with evergreen swags, trees and wreaths. “Winter is our preferred season,” said Otten, who married Malecha...
