NICEVILLE — After months of searching, the city of Niceville has named Mark Hayse as the new chief of police.

Beginning his new role on Friday, Aug. 30, Hayse brings over 33 years of service in law enforcement, including a tenure at the Fort Walton Beach Police Department.

According to a city of Niceville news release, Hayse has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety throughout his career, earning the trust and respect of colleagues and coworkers.

"We are confident that under his leadership, our police department will continue to uphold its commitment to serving and protecting our citizens," said the city.

Hayse takes over duties from Interim Chief Rob Lovering, who has overseen the department since the retirement of Chief David Popwell in February.
