HURLBURT FIELD β€” The Air Force Academy football team announced that during its game against Navy, the Falcons will wear custom jerseys to pay tribute to the Air Force Special Operations Command, headquartered at Hurlburt Field.

β€œAFSOC is honored to be featured on this year’s United States Air Force Academy Air Power Legacy Series uniform," an AFSOC Public Affairs spokesperson said in a written statement. "We are excited for the upcoming season and will be cheering on the Falcons on game-day.”

Here is what you need to know.

    Uniform details

A departure from the typical blue and white worn on gameday, the eighth iteration of the "Air Power Legacy Series" is highlighted by a helmet bearing the official emblem of AFSOC and a back bumper bearing the AFSOC motto, "Any Place, Any Time, Anywhere." A sticker featuring the Air Force Special Tactics logo with a lightning bolt, green fret and dagger represents the "First there, that others may live" community.

Moving down to the jersey, the player's nameplate will be featured on the right chest. The right sleeve will feature an American flag, and the left sleeve will feature one of three Air Force Special Tactics badges. The back nameplate will feature the word "AFSOC."

The Nike swoosh and number outlines will feature red accents, honoring the scarlet beret worn by special tactics combat controllers.

The pants will feature the dagger, the symbol of special operations, on the left leg and the Special Tactics Combat Control motto, "First There," on the right leg.

This isn't the first time the Air Force Falcons have donned a special jersey with local ties to the community.

In 2018, the Falcons wore jerseys that paid tribute to the AC-130 gunships, a common sight in the skies above Okaloosa County.

In 2023, the team wore uniforms that honored the Doolittle Raiders, who trained for their famous mission over Japan at Eglin Air Force Base in 1942.

    Where can I watch?

To see these jerseys in action, tune into your local CBS affiliate on Oct. 5 as the Air Force Falcons host the Navy Midshipmen. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CST.

The Air Force has won the past four games against Navy. The Navy Midshipmen have not won at Falcon Stadium since 2012.
