EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE — Ahead of Tropical Storm Helene , which is expected to become a major hurricane , Eglin Air Force Base officials said Tuesday that they are securing the base and other sites.

“Eglin AFB is prioritizing the safety and security of our personnel, and we will continue to closely monitor and respond appropriately to any upcoming weather conditions,” Brig. Gen. Mark Massaro, 96th Test Wing commander, said in a news release.

With the potential for hazardous weather, base officials say that the 96th Medical Group may reschedule appointments. Officials said patients are encouraged to stock up on medications and supplies that will last at least 10 days and prepare for other base services to be affected.

Base leadership encourages personnel to review family plans , monitor local news outlets and stay current with forecasts from the National Hurricane Center.
