    Eglin Air Force Base moves to mission-essential staffing because of Hurricane Helene

    EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE — The 96th Test Wing has announced that Eglin Air Force Base will move to a mission-essential posture on Thursday at 6 a.m. as Hurricane Helene races to a Florida Panhandle landfall.

    With the change, many base operations and services will be closed or affected. These services include the Aero Club, outdoor recreation, Eglin golf course, honor guard, child development centers and the youth center.

    The 96th Medical Group's emergency room and inpatient services will remain open, while all other medical facilities will remain closed. The commissary, West Gate Shoppette and Shopette gas pumps will remain open until 3 p.m.

    Eglin officials advise all personnel to keep close contact with the leadership regarding their status.
