Crown Point pipelining project completed

Officials recently gathered to celebrate the completion of sewer infrastructure upgrades in Crown Point.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Congressman Frank Mrvan and Crown Point Mayor Peter Land held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the milestone.

The project provides improvements to the sanitary sewer infrastructure in Crown Point’s Liberty Park neighborhood. The project involved lining over 10,000 linear feet of sewers and rehabilitating 38 manholes to reduce inflow and infiltration.

“Thank you to Mayor Land and Rep. Mrvan for your partnerships as we continue to work together on infrastructure improvement projects that make a significant impact in the lives that they touch,” Steven Fischer said in a press release . Fischer is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago district deputy for plans and program management.

The project is part of the Calumet Region Environmental Infrastructure Section 219 program. It received $1,200,000 of federal funding. Costs of projects under this program are at 75% federal and 25% nonfederal sponsor. The nonfederal sponsor, the City of Crown Point, provided a 25% cash match of $391,666.

Gary-based Integrated Environmental Solutions was the contractor for the project. Construction began in September 2023.
