SW falls in Warriors versus Warriors battle
Avenging last year’s regional semifinal game and a contest earlier this season against South Winn, Wapsie Valley pushed the Red and White out of the postseason Wednesday in the Class 2A Region 7 Semifinal, 9-3. South Winn ended the season with a 22-13 overall mark as the Upper Iowa Conference champions for the second straight year.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Communications Jeff Braun has been selected as the 2023-24 Dave Rebstock/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Sports Information Director (SID) of the Year, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports. This is the first time Braun has been honored with “The Rebby” award for the GPAC. A vote of the league’s sports information directors determined the selection.
Tello Agrees to Terms with Philadelphia Phillies
IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa redshirt junior Raider Tello has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies. The El Monte, California, native led the team hitting .357 in 54 games this season. Tello notched 79 hits, 19 doubles, four triples, and seven home runs. He plated 60 RBIs and scored 51 runs. Tello appeared in 113 career games for Iowa over two seasons with a .335 batting average. He recorded 155 hits, scored 98 runs, hit 33 doubles and had 11 home runs. The man who brought holiday joy to thousands of Quad Citians at the Festival of Trees Parade has passed away. Michael Thomas Peppers, 81, of Davenport – a familiar sight in parades and various appearances in his costume and customized Santamobile – passed away at his home Monday, according to a Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home obituary.

BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (KCRG) - Inside Drahos Shoe Store, on Main Street in Belle Plaine, lives generations of knowledge. “My grandfather was a Shoemaker in Bohemia. In 1904, he immigrated to the US. He was 17 years old. He had $22.60 in his pocket,” says Dan Drahos, the current owner and operator of Drahos Shoe Store. Don’s grandfather used those talents to start up a shoe repair business in Belle Plaine during the Great Depression, and eventually passed the business along to his son.
Carroll Community School District Board Of Education To Hold Special Meeting Adopting New Resolution For Bond Agreement Amount
The Carroll Community School District Board of Education released the agenda for the special meeting to update the resolution for the new proposed transportation facility. After the public hearing during Monday night’s meeting, the board members rejected the proposed resolution to enter into a bond agreement not to exceed $16 million and plan to lower that amount by issuing a new bond agreement. During the special meeting, board members will determine the maximum amount to bond to construct the new structure. Upon deciding that, the board will also schedule a public hearing to allow for input on the new resolution. The only other item on the agenda is considering an engagement letter with Dorsey Whitney LLP, which will serve as the project attorney. This meeting will be held in the Adams Elementary School Board Room starting at 8:15 a.m. The meeting is open to the public and can be attended in person or via Zoom.
