BBB is getting calls from our Accredited Businesses we well as area consumers reporting a new fraud crime in the area: Scammers are sending emails claiming to be from the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) – one of the very agencies charged with preventing financial fraud. These emails masquerade as the “U.S. Business Compliance Commission,” and implore you to fill out a BOI Report (Beneficial Ownership Information Report) to avoid financial penalties. A false phone number is given, as well as a fake link, not ending in “.gov,” but “.net” (.gov websites belong to official government organizations in the United States).

Kruse re-signs with Walleye
Toledo, Ohio – Forward Brandon Kruse will return to the Toledo Walleye, marking his second season in Toledo after agreeing to terms for the 2024-25 season. Kruse, a native of Saline, Michigan, posted a career year for the Walleye in 2023-24, tallying 54 points (18g-36a) over 70 games. The 25-year-old added another 11 points (4g-7a) in Toledo’s 14 playoff games.
UToledo to Host Pedestrian Bridge Groundbreaking Thursday
The University of Toledo will host a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, July 18, for a new pedestrian bridge over Douglas Road that will more directly connect the University’s engineering buildings to the rest of Main Campus. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on the east side of Savage Arena.
UT to receive $3.85 million for hypertension research
The University of Toledo Health Science Campus is slated to receive a $3.85 million grant to research hypertension. The grant, from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, was announced Monday by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo). It will support research on the potential of conjugated bile acids as nutritionally re-programmable antihypertensive metabolites. This research aims to address the critical issue of hypertension, a condition affecting millions of Americans. The project will be led by Dr. Bina Joe, who will explore innovative ways to manage and treat high blood pressure through dietary interventions targeting bile acid pathways. “Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, and hypertension is a significant contributor,” Ms. Kaptur said. “I am thrilled that this substantial award will enable Dr. Joe and her team to pursue cutting-edge research that has the potential to transform how we approach hypertension treatment.”
