Lowcountry animal shelters offering reduced-fee adoptions
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Three Lowcountry animal shelters are participating in a national drive to reduce overcrowding at shelters and find homes for homeless pets. Berkeley Animal Center, the Charleston Animal Society and Dorchester Paws will be participating in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Summer National Empty the Shelters” event from July 8-31. All pets available for adoption at the “Summer National Empty the Shelters” event are microchipped, vaccinated and fixed and are adoptable for $50 or less.

Gonzalez Celebrates Birthday by Walking Off Pelicans in 10th Inning; RiverDogs Sweep Series
Charleston, SC - Ricardo Gonzalez turned 20 years old on Saturday. The Charleston RiverDogs shortstop celebrated by grounding a base hit through the left side of the infield that plated the winning run in a wild 11-10 extra-inning affair at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The RiverDogs set a new franchise record by stealing 13 bases in the game without being caught. The six-game sweep was the team’s first since June of 2022. 5,638 fans took in the high-scoring contest.
