NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — An officer with the Norwich Police Department has been placed on administrative leave after being accused of stealing food from a Walmart.

Megan Crawford is a member of the patrol division, according to Norwich Police Chief Patrick Daley. She’s been with the department for three years and is now the subject of an internal investigation.

Crawford, 24, of Ledyard, has been charged with sixth-degree larceny after she allegedly didn’t scan food at a self-checkout on July 9. She had the food hidden inside reusable bags, according to an incident report.

In total, she didn’t pay $115.22 for 18 items, according to the report. After being approached by loss prevention and an officer, she signed a two-year trespass notice from Walmart.

A review of footage from June showed that she didn’t pay for some items then, either, according to the report. She’s accused of hiding the food inside reusable bags then, as well.
