NORWICH, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A photography exhibit in Norwich highlights the natural beauty and explosive colors of the American West.

Western Landscapes features nearly 40 photographs taken by Bill Lelbach over the past 15 years.

For the last 20 years, Lelbach has traveled each Fall to document remote areas of to Southwest and Mountain West. His photos are printed in color and sometimes black and white and some are printed on aluminum plates.

Lelbach says his affinity for the region began as a child on a family road trip across the West.

“The Southwest has a color palette unlike anything else in the world. Because of the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon and all of the erosion that occurred there, you go back in time when you go through the Grand Canyon. You go back billions of years,” said Lelbach.

Lelbach says many of the places he photographed are only accessible by hiking or with a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The exhibition will be on display for the next three weeks in the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Gallery of the Chenango Arts Council, located at 27 West Main Street in Norwich.

    The prints are for sale.

There is an opening reception planned for tomorrow evening from 5:30 to 7 featuring live music and refreshments.
