The Notre Dame baseball program saw two players drafted on Monday on Day 2 of the MLB Draft. The Detroit Tigers took shortstop Jack Penney in the fifth round, and the St. Louis Cardinals selected pitcher Jack Findlay in the eighth round.

Penney was the No. 147 overall pick in the Draft. He will have the option to join the Tigers organization following 137 career games with the Irish. Last season, he batted .269 with a career-high 23 extra-base hits to go along with 37 RBI.

Despite missing the 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Findlay went No. 231 overall to the Cardinals. Before the lefty injured his throwing arm, Findlay compiled a 10-4 record and posted a 2.90 ERA in 30 appearances. He has 108 career strikeouts in 90 innings pitched.

According to The Athletic , Findlay participated in last month’s MLB Scouting Combine and threw a 14-pitch bullpen session. His fastball topped out at 92.3 MPH.

In addition to Penney and Findlay, the Irish had two of their 2024 recruiting class signees drafted: pitcher Cameron Sullivan and outfielder Brendan Tunink . Sullivan went No. 205 overall to the Cleveland Guardians, while the Los Angeles Dodgers chose Tunink at No. 250.

Sullivan and Tunink can pursue their college career or sign with the professional clubs that drafted them.
