Notre Dame football suffers season-ending injury at key position

Practice injuries are one of the most bitter pills to swallow in sports, and the Notre Dame football team is certainly dealing with a tough one on Monday.

According to Pete Sampson, a Notre Dame beat writer for The Athletic, the Fighting Irish have lost offensive tackle Charles Jagusah for the season because of an upper-body injury he suffered in practice.

It was later confirmed by Andy Staples of On3 that the injury was a tear in Jagusah's right pectoralis muscle.

This is a massive blow for Notre Dame. It would have hurt had this injury happened during Week 1 during a heated contest with the Texas A&M Aggies. It hurts even more considering this happened during a practice — especially considering the expectations for Jagusah this season.

A redshirt freshman, he appeared in just two games last year, but he replaced Joe Alt (the No. 5 overall pick in this past NFL Draft) as the starter at left tackle in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl and he was expected to be Notre Dame's starter this season.

Checking in at 6-foot-7 and 330 pounds, the former four-star recruit is going to be hard to replace this close to the start of the season.

Notre Dame travels to College Station to take on Texas A&M in its season opener on Aug. 31.
