    Road Maintenance Delay Angers Residents

    2024-05-26

At the May 23 meeting of the Nottingham Board of Selectmen the board heard a complaint from a resident who had complained in a recent meeting about the town’s failure to maintain their road. Their road has not been graded since last autumn. They complained that many of the town’s dirt roads were in terrible shape and that nothing had been done all winter about the potholes. They asked whether there was no budget for fixing the roads, and if so, how was all of the recent ditching and road widening work funded rather than routine repair work?

They also complained that emails sent to the Highway Director and Town Administrator had been ignored.

The board responded that the town’s grader has been out of service for three weeks, awaiting parts. Once the grader is fixed grading will resume.

The Highway Director has said that there is nothing that can be done to fix potholes on the dirt roads in the winter. Selectman Morin said that the town used to use the grader as a snowplow and that this helped fill in potholes in the winter.

Selectman Morin said that if citizens find that town employees are unresponsive, they can email the board at bospc@nottingham-nh.gov to have their issue addressed at the next board meeting. The board cannot reply to the email as it must do all of its deliberations at public meetings.

I think the town of Nottingham has it pretty good, as a former resident, highway services pretty much sucked. I moved to deerfield, lived through 3 elected road agents and our roads were never better when Rollins was running the show. now, you think Nottingham has potholes? take a ride over Haynes rd. or Mt. delight rd. or pretty much any other paved rd. in Deerfield, these roads look like they were bombed in ww2! pot holes larger than a kitchen sink and just as deep ! loosing Steve Rollins as road agent due to our selectmen changing from elected to appointed, has really left our town in a shambles. be careful what you wish for !
