ANNAPOLIS, MD—The state of Maryland this week announced an investment of $7.3 million to upskill the workforce and make the state more competitive in a bid to attract more businesses and create higher-paying jobs for local workers.

The Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) Maryland program will provide grants to over 500 businesses to help them upskill and diversify their workforce to meet the growing demand for products and services in the healthcare, information technology, skilled trade, and hospitality industries.

The grants are being administered by the Maryland Department of Labor and are expected to train or upskill more than 3,400 workers, bolstering the state’s economic growth and competitiveness.

“We are proud to announce the largest investment to date in the EARN Workforce Grant Program–an effort which will help over 500 businesses throughout the state,” said Governor Wes Moore. “These grants empower our business owners and their employees to build up our local economies, strengthen Maryland’s workforce pipeline, and provide much-needed resources to more than 3,400 workers who are on the front lines every day, getting the work done.”

The EARN Maryland program has a proven track record of success in supporting job training and placement for thousands of Maryland workers. This latest round of funding will help to bolster the state’s workforce pipeline and ensure that businesses have access to the skilled workers they need to thrive.
