Nawrocki, Marks, Szeliga help clear way for new Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company station

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—Delegates Ryan Nawrocki and Kathy Szeliga and Baltimore County Councilman David Marks on Thursday took part in an event to mark the start of site preparation work at the future home of the Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.

Over the past several months the Delegates and Councilman have worked to assist the fire company in their efforts to demolish existing structures and begin site preparation work at the future firehouse site at the corner of Bengies Road and MD 43. Their efforts included working with various Baltimore County departments to help fast-track this initial work, which allowed the company to move toward a new fire station serving the Middle River area.

The new facility is far along in the planning and development process. Ultimately, the building will be roughly 23,000 square feet, which will allow for enhanced fire and rescue capabilities. The firehouse will also include a community room for use by local residents and organizations and accommodation for a live-in program for first responders.

“A new Middle River Volunteer Fire House is desperately needed to accommodate the continued growth of residents and businesses in the community,” said Delegate Nawrocki. “Councilman Marks, Delegate Szeliga and I have worked in unison to secure funding for several volunteer fire stations in the community including Middle River and we look forward to continuing to support their efforts as they get closer to completing their new home.”

“I am pleased that MRVFRC has successfully received approval for the necessary demolition permit to remove adjacent structures on the new property,” added Delegate Szeliga. “This location off Route 43 will enhance the company’s ability to serve Baltimore County citizens with greater efficiency and modern capabilities.”

“This is one of the first major steps toward building a state-of-the-art fire station to serve the growing Middle River community,” said Councilman Marks. “This is very important and I will continue to support fire stations throughout Bowleys Quarters, Middle River, and across the eastside.”

“Today was another important step in bringing our communities the enhanced fire and rescue services they desperately need,” said Roger Bedard, Middle River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Chair of the Board . “We will continue to update the community as more progress occurs for the new building.”
