AFD claimed victory in this year's Guns-n-Hoses blood drive
The Abilene Fire Department claimed victory in this year's Guns-n-Hoses blood drive. Hoses, the Abilene Fire Department logged 165 donors. Guns, the Abilene Police Department had 154 donors. This year marked the 13th blood drive held in memory of police officer Rodney Holder an Abilene police officer who died in a motorcycle crash in 2010. The friendly competition between the APD and the AFD helps to replenish blood supplies for Hendrick's Blood Center, which serves 20 hospitals in the Big Country.
A Legacy Woven Through Tapestry
The Brownwood Arts Association exhibits the artwork of Mary Green Engle, with features from Mike Lewis and Charlotte Garrett Cooper. Inspired by the creativity of the women who came before her, Engle composed an ensemble of eclectic fashion that is on display at the Brownwood Arts Center until July 25th. The titles of the pieces alone clue the audience in on the graceful trade of her ancestors, which has left an impressionable mark on Engle’s art – “Carefully Curated Whimsy” as an example.
Splash pad at Unidad Park set to reopen to the public this weekend
SAN ANGELO, Texas — The All-Tex Irrigation Splash Pad at Unidad Park, 3245 Vista Del Arroyo, will reopen to the public this weekend. The City of San Angelo said it will update the public once a time and date are finalized. The information will be posted on the City’s website at cosatx.us/News and the City’s social media accounts.
Sweetwater Fire Department announces Tad Baird as new chief
SWEETWATER, Texas — The Sweetwater Fire Department has a new leader. Thursday the City of Sweetwater announced Tad Baird as the new Chief of the Sweetwater Fire Department. Chief Baird has been with the department since 2015 when he started as a Firefighter/Paramedic. He has since served in other roles including Lieutenant Paramedic and Training/Safety Officer.
