GBI Investigates Inmate's Death at Clarke County Jail

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of an inmate at the Clarke County Jail.

Around 1:45 Saturday morning, March 16, jail staff found the woman unresponsive and in apparent medical distress.

“Staff immediately began working with medical personnel to provide aid to the woman until EMS responded to the scene,” a news release from the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office states.

The inmate was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

At the request of the sheriff’s office, the GBI took over the investigation.
