The search for a missing Oconee County, South Carolina, man has shifted toward Northeast Georgia.

A notice from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office says it is believed Mark Wagnon may have been traveling to Rabun or Franklin County, Georgia, or Jackson County, North Carolina.

According to investigators, a hiker discovered Wagnon’s vehicle Thursday near Tower Road and Highway 107 in the Mountain Rest area of Oconee County. It was found vacant with the keys still in it, approximately 11 miles east of the Georgia state line.

On August 19, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division issued a statewide endangered person notification for the 66-year-old Wagnon.

“Mark is in need of immediate medical attention for issues that affect his memory,” the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office says.

Since he disappeared, authorities have been conducting searches and tracing Wagnon’s steps through video evidence but have been unable to find him.

The first big breakthrough in the case was discovering his car on August 22. Authorities are asking the public to “be vigilant” and watch out for him.

Wagnon is a white male approximately five feet nine inches tall and weighs 158 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue/gray polo shirt, blue jeans, and glasses.

If you see him or know where he is, call 911 immediately.
