The city of Cornelia repainted its expression wall at the skate park near downtown after police recognized it was “tagged” with gang slogans and graffiti.

A press release from Cornelia City Manager Dee Anderson says the slogans and all the artwork on the wall were painted over.

Cornelia built the wall in June to give aspiring artists a place to showcase their talent legally.

Anderson says the wall will remain open for the time being. However, if more inappropriate material is painted on it, the city will permanently remove the wall.

The free expression wall is between the city’s skate park and J. P. Ballard Center on Chattahoochee Street behind the Habersham County Library in Cornelia.
