Desperate Family Searches for Missing Elderly Man
A Northeast Georgia family’s desperation is growing as they enter the second month without any contact with their missing father. It’s now been over a month since Joanie Callenback Knight last saw Vaughn Callenback. The 77-year-old Rabun County man visited Knight at her home in Franklin County, North Carolina, on July 3. She says he borrowed some money and left her house on July 4.
Remains Found in Woods: Possible Link to Missing Man
Human remains found in Banks County may be those of a man who disappeared in mid-June. The Banks County Sheriff’s Office says the remains were discovered Friday afternoon, August 9, in a wooded area near Harden Bridge Road northeast of Commerce. The remains were found during a search for Charles “Eddie” Ramsey, whose family reported him missing.
Victim of July 17 wreck on Hwy. 115 passes away
One of the victims of a July 17 multi-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 115 at Haywood Hills Road has died. 61-year-old Sandra Holbrooks Pulliam of Helen passed away Thursday, July 25, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville from injuries suffered in the wreck, said Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire.
Arrest Made in Maria Gomez-Perez Case: Ohio Man in Custody
Eight weeks after her disappearance from her Gainesville home, 12-year-old Maria Gomez Perez was located safe in Dover, Ohio, said Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch. A male suspect, identified as 34-year-old Antonio Agustin is in custody in the Tuscarawas County Jail in connection with Maria’s disappearance.

Missing Hall County girl Maria Gomez-Perez found safe in another state
A 12-year-old Hall County girl missing for nearly two months has been found safe in another state, law enforcement officials announced late Thursday, July 25. In a social media update, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office says investigators with its Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) “safely located and recovered Maria Gomez-Perez of Gainesville this evening in another state.”
Forest Service worker, SC man injured in head-on crash
A two-vehicle crash early Thursday sent two people to area hospitals with serious and non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The crash happened around 6:56 a.m. July 25 on GA 17 near Lankford Road in Franklin County. The preliminary crash report says a Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on GA 17 when it crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on.
Former NFL Coach Eric Sutulovich Named Stephens County Athletic Director
Stephens County has a new Athletic Director, former NFL Coach Eric Sutulovich. Sutulovich was named Athletic Director at a meeting of the Stephens County Board of Education on July 18. He has 18 years of professional, college, and high school football coaching experience behind him. Currently, he serves as the Special Teams Coordinator for Cherokee Bluff High School in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
GBI IDs couple killed in officer-involved shooting in Alto
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the two people killed in an officer-involved shooting in northern Banks County. The Tuesday shooting claimed the lives of Joshua Everett Emmett, 45, of Alto, and Meagan Victoria Feaster, 33, of Forsyth, according to the GBI.
Search continues for missing elderly man
The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in locating a missing elderly man from Rabun County. According to Rabun County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Mark Gerrells, Vaughn Callenback was last seen on July 5 in Rabun County. A missing persons report was filed by a family member on July 13.
Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Alto: Investigation Underway
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in northern Banks County that left two people dead. The shooting happened Tuesday morning at a home on Cedar Drive, south of Lee Arrendale State Prison. No law officers were injured, a GBI press release says.
Resident Escapes Burning Home
A White County resident escaped an early morning fire that destroyed their home, according to a news release from the White County Public Safety Department. The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 13 at a residence in the area of Bayberry Lane and Skitts Mountain Road.
Hall County deputies foil alleged kidnapping attempt
A Louisiana man was arrested on Wednesday during a routine traffic stop after investigators say he abducted a 12-year-old girl from North Carolina. Kenton Jesus Enamorado Ventura, 18, is charged with using wireless communication while driving and driving while unlicensed, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Man feared drowned found safe at Lake Lanier
In a happy twist to an alarming story that broke Monday night, authorities say a Winder man who disappeared while swimming with friends at Lake Lanier has been found safe. 20-year-old Zachary Rutledge was reported missing on July 8 at Burton Mill Park. On Tuesday morning, he flagged down a Hall County deputy patrolling the park and said he had spent the night there.
