Meet the artist event set for April 3

In the 21 Step Gallery (2665 Fourth Ave., Suite 201), a new gallery show “Finding My Voice” has opened, featuring acrylic paintings by Joel Springer.

Springer will host a meet the artist event on Wednesday, April 3, from 10-11 a.m., where attendees can meet Springer and learn about him as an artist and the creative process he uses in creating his artwork. The event is free and open to the public.

Springer is an acrylic painter from Nowthen. He has had a lifelong interest in art and dabbled through the years until his children left home; then he had more time to focus on his painting. Springer’s favorite subject is aging buildings. He is attracted to interesting architectural forms, and he is drawn to the lines and color he finds in these buildings. Springer paints mainly on pressboard, where he often uses old, worn T-shirts, along with a paint brush or two, and lots of tape.

“‘Finding My Voice’ is the title of my show because though there are similarities from in the paintings, typically through subject and medium, my approach and style frequently changes from piece to piece,” Springer said. “This show attempts to exhibit works that show some of those varied approaches.”

“Finding My Voice” is on display through Saturday, April 13.
