BILLINGS — Throughout the 2023-24 school year, Billings Public Schools Superintendent Erwin Garcia grew increasingly troubled by a sight he repeatedly witnessed in classrooms around the district: students scrolling their smartphones, their attention wrenched from the lessons unfolding before them. His mind turned to the district’s flagging high school test scores, to the national statistics he’d seen on rising rates of anxiety, depression and other disorders among America’s youth, and to the reams of research partly linking such challenges to smartphones and social media.
Buffalo Hill Golf Club in Kalispell seeks lease extension

Court documents say neighbor was 'acting strange' leading up to woman's death
BILLINGS, Mont. - An affidavit shares additional details on the suspicious death of a 52-year-old woman that became a homicide investigation over the weekend. Neighbors of a couple living in an apartment on Sioux Lane called the Billings Police Department for a welfare check on August 24 after not seeing their female neighbor since August 11, a motion filed by Hallie E. Bishop states. Neighbors also noticed a foul odor and a pile of blankets show up on the porch of Shane Roberts and a woman, later known to be the victim.
