Work begins Tuesday to remove dying courthouse tree
The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. The board approved claims. Jim Bolte, county road department foreman, reported work was completed on the installation of three culverts located west of CR 3300. The state will be shipping new stop signs and poles, at no cost to the county, soon. The department is putting together the one and six year highway plan.
96-year- old court bailiff retires; retired banker takes her place
Jim Farmer, a rural Deweese resident, has been named as the Nuckolls County court bailiff. He replaced Donna Boeka, who had served as bailiff since 1999 and had retired. Farmer retired from a 43 year career in banking at Red Cloud 10 years ago. Farmer graduated from Broken Bow High School. He earned a degree in business from Kearney State College.
Four-county area loses respite care agency
After 42 years of serving area family caregivers, Hastings Respite Care Inc., no longer will be providing respite care services to Adams, Clay, Nuckolls and Webster counties. South Central Town Hall Caregiver Coalition, a separate entity that used to be overseen by Hastings Respite Care, will continue to host the annual Day of Caring for Those Who Care, an event held in late April at the Hastings City Auditorium that aims to help family caregivers learn about the importance of taking care of themselves. The event is sponsored by the South Central Town Hall Caregiver Coalition, various grants, and the Hastings Community Foundation’s Give Hastings Day event, which allows the day to be free for anyone caring for a loved one with special needs.
