SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California school district involved in an ongoing legal battle with the state over the district’s gender-identity policy sued Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom Tuesday over a new law banning districts from requiring that parents be notified of their child’s gender identification change.

Teaching is a rewarding career. A major shift in California may make it easier for those aspiring to have a career in education to obtain a California teaching credential. Thanks to Senate Bill 153, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on June 29 to address the teacher shortage and reduce roadblocks to the education profession, candidates in most credential programs no longer need to provide additional evidence of competence in basic skills if they hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. La Sierra University Vice President for Enrollment Services Wayne Dunbar addresses the inaugural cohort of new school administrators in La Sierra's School Leadership Academy. The academy, a training program designed for K-12 education leaders, hosted a first cohort of 12 administrators and teachers for four days between June 24 – 27. The group engaged in curriculum that covered such critical areas as assessment strategies, effective teacher evaluation methods, school budget management, conflict resolution, disciplinary best practices, special needs, instructional leadership techniques, sustainable leadership strategies, work-life balance and time management optimization, among other topics.
