Loveland City Council Takes Step Toward Sales Tax Increase
Loveland City Council Tuesday directed city finance staff to draft language for a referred ballot measure on a sales tax increase, despite some skepticism that the voters will be persuaded. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, during the council’s discussion of the potential measure, no single number emerged as a consensus choice for the increase. The majority of public commenters spoke out against a sales tax increase, both out of concern for low-income residents and due to Loveland City Council’s previous votes to defer some sales and property taxes to development deals.
Loveland REI Co-op To Mark Opening In August
REI Co-op will open its new Loveland store in one month at the Centerra shopping center. A three day celebration with giveaways and more starts August 23rd. The Greeley Tribune reports the 23,000-square-foot store features outdoor gear and apparel for camping, hiking, cycling, climbing, running, fitness and more. Also in-store will be bicycle tune up and repair and the co-op’s seasonal ski and snowboard shop offers a range of services such as waxing, mounting and tune-ups.
Motorcyclist Dies In Loveland Crash
A crash at Taft Avenue and First Street in Loveland Tuesday left a motorcycle driver dead. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, the man was traveling north on Taft when the sedan hit him as its driver attempted to tuft left from southbound Taft onto First Street, despite the motorcyclist having the right-of-way. Police say the driver of the sedan fled the scene after hitting the motorcycle, which burst into flames. Officers responded to the crash site and were able to put out the flames with fire extinguishers in minutes. The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATE: Law enforcement provides details on Colorado Highway 9 crash between Breckenridge, Frisco
3:45 p.m. Colorado State Patrol trooper Gabriel Moltrer said that at least two people were transported to the hospital following the crash at the intersection of Colorado Highway 9 and Swan Mountain Road. Moltrer said the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. It was reported to involve three vehicles, which blocked the roadway, leading to the brief northbound closure.

Colorado ranks fifth in drivers with worst road rage
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Road rage is one of the many dangers on the road and in Colorado it has become all too common, according to the Colorado State Patrol. CSP Trooper Gabriel Moltrer states, “Just to start last year, we had over 55,000 CSP call-ins (and) over 29,000 of those last year were road rage calls. So, with that, a lot of times people start having that road rage while they’re driving on the road.”
