Holy Carp! 12 Pond Fish Caught in Nutley's Mudhole

NUTLEY, NJ - When asked what he did this summer, Nutley resident Thomas "TJ" Ricci will have a fish story to tell.

This past Saturday, Ricci was fishing at the Mudhole in Memorial Park when a fish nibbled his line.

Knowing that some may think this is a fish story, Ricci handed his phone to a person in the park who snapped a picture for evidence.

His wife Marissa Chasmar knew this was a story that had to be told, so she shared the story with us.

Chasmar said he had been targeting the carp for about a week and was finally able to catch it. She said it took about ten minutes to fight the carp. Bystanders in the park were excited by the event and surprised at the size of the fish.

After striking a pose, Ricci released the fish back into the water.

Chasmar told TAPinto Nutley that the couple loves the parks in town, and TJ fishes whenever he can. Ricci is an avid flyfisherman and outdoorsman. He works as a city planner for Stonefield Engineering and Design in Rutherford.

Ricci and his wife bought their home in August 2023. Chasmar is a 2014 graduate of Nutley High School who went on to Rutgers University. That's where she met her husband.

The fish is currently back in the Mudhole, probably eating mosquitoes and other pests, waiting for the next angler to reel him in.
