New Jersey Swimmers Fallon and Alexy Earn Spots in U.S. Olympic Trials
NEW JERSEY - Two New Jersey swimmers, Matt Fallon of Warren and Jack Alexy of Mendham, have earned spots in the U.S. trials for the 2024 Olympics, which kick off in Paris on July 26. Fallon broke the American record in the 200-meter breaststroke, while Alexy secured his spot in the 100-meter freestyle by outperforming a seven-time gold medalist. Bayonne Firefighters Rescue Workers from Vacant Home
BAYONNE, NJ - Three workers were rescued from inside a vacant home last week, Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver reported. Firefighters faced heavy smoke coming from the attic area of a one and half story home at 5 Pavonia Court when they arrived there at 4:57 p.m. on Thursday after reports of a structure fire. The Hasbrouck Heights Public Library and Youth Services Librarian, Maureen Herman, welcomed ZoophoriaNJ, an organization focused on educating children about wildlife. ZoophoriaNJ offered a special wildlife program that combined art and animals. The program consisted of meeting and learning about four different animals, hearing about conservation efforts, and finally, making a “Bucket List Journal” to imagine all the places and animals you want to see in the future. UNION, NJ - A "Town-Wide Block Party", hosted by the Union Township Education Association (UTEA), is set for Tuesday, August 13, in Rabkin Park for all Union residents. Rocks Rock: Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Offering "Rock On" Geology Summer Camp for Kids
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Is your child interested in rock? Sorry, not rock — rocks? If so, Ridgewood Parks & Recreation might have the summer camp for you. At the week-long "Rock On" camp, children ages 6 to 10 can learn about plate tectonics, volcanology, earthquakes, types of rock, glaciation, identifying local rocks, mining and mineral exploration, gems and minerals. The camp will run from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Stable on 259 N. Maple Ave. Each child will receive a basic illustrated reference book geared to their ages for further study after the Camp ends. It will cost $275 for Ridgewood residents and $290 for non-residents.
