WWE Clash at the Castle 2024 Predictions
This Saturday, WWE presents Clash at the Castle 2024 live from Scotland. I have to say, I appreciate the new WWE PLE match format under TKO. The PLE match cards are now shorter, which allows more attention to detail for each match. This change enables more strategic and longer build-ups for each feud, catering well to today's shorter attention spans. Additionally, with fewer matches on the card, each bout can be a bit longer, enhancing the overall quality of the event.
Clash at the Castle feels like a cool filler PLE, setting the stage as we build momentum towards Money in the Bank in July, leading us into SummerSlam in Ohio. Here are my match predictions:
1) Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark vs. Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn (Triple Threat Match for the Women's Tag Team Titles)
The power duo of Bianca and Jade has been nothing short of impressive, but I can't help but wonder when one will turn on the other and accuse them of stealing their spotlight. I believe this will happen eventually because the ultimate match will be Bianca vs. Jade down the line, but the question is when? For this match, I predict that Jade and Bianca will retain. However, if the split happens at Clash, expect Baszler and Stark to pick up the women's tag titles. Ultimately, my prediction is that Jade and Bianca will retain.
2) Bayley vs. Piper Niven (w/Chelsea Green) (WWE Women's Championship)
Bayley retains here. This match is to keep the champ busy and build her reign while giving Niven some airtime. Bayley retains in this match.
3) Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable (with Otis, Akira Tozawa, and Maxxine Dupri) (Intercontinental Championship)
Not only did I predict that Sami Zayn would win his triple threat match at King of the Ring, and not only did I predict that Bronson Reed would take the pin, but I also predicted that the story would continue with Zayn and Gable. The true story here is the emergence of Otis, who may cost Gable the match and start his own pupil vs. teacher feud with Gable. Sami Zayn retains and goes on to face a bigger challenger.
4) Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre (World Heavyweight Championship)
This match is hard to call, and not for the reasons you may think. It's difficult because predicting it would suggest knowing who Gunther will face at SummerSlam after being crowned King of the Ring. WWE was smart not to have Gunther interact with either of these men, making this match even more unpredictable. CM Punk is also a wild factor here. CM Punk could cost McIntyre the match, allowing Priest to retain and face Gunther at SummerSlam. Alternatively, McIntyre could beat Priest, reclaim the title, and then lose to Gunther at SummerSlam with an assist from CM Punk. My prediction is that Damian Priest retains.
5) Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles ("I Quit" Match for the Undisputed WWE Championship)
I like the build-up to this match, and it hurts to see AJ Styles in the position of putting over champions when he should be one himself. But that's the nature of the business. I predict Cody Rhodes retains in this match in an unfamiliar fashion because I don't see Styles outright saying "I quit." The question for WWE fans is whether this match will be just as good as their match at Backlash.
