New York City Remains Resilient Amid Worldwide Microsoft Outage, Says Mayor Eric Adams

NEW YORK (PIX11) – A global Microsoft outage has disrupted flights and online banking services this Friday morning. However, Mayor Eric Adams assured New Yorkers that the city's emergency services are operating smoothly.

"This is not a cyberattack," Mayor Eric Adams emphasized.

The outage was triggered by an update from cybersecurity software provider Crowdstrike, which unintentionally caused system failures. New York City officials were informed of the issue around 12:40 a.m. and convened shortly thereafter to evaluate the situation and mitigate any potential damage.

Mayor Adams, along with other city officials, confirmed that essential services, including 911 operations and hospitals, remain unaffected. The MTA is continuing its services without interruption.

"Everything is running as expected," stated officials. The FDNY has reported no significant operational impacts, with dispatchers and field units using department radios for communication.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey also reported no issues related to the outage, although many airlines are experiencing delays and cancellations.

“Air travelers are advised NOT to head to the airport unless their flight status is confirmed. Please check the FAA site for updates on airport delays and cancellations,” Mayor Adams urged.

Commuters faced difficulties with train and bus status checks in New York City. The MTA announced on X that some customer services are temporarily offline due to the global outage.

“Some MTA customer information systems are temporarily offline due to a worldwide technical outage. Train and bus services are running as usual. Please listen for announcements at your station, on your train, or on your bus,” the MTA stated.

Travelers coming from New Jersey encountered issues with ticket purchases as some vending machines were down. NJ Transit has assured that no one will be denied service due to ticketing problems this morning.

Information on LIRR arrivals, station announcements, and platform signs were also affected, though train services remain operational, according to the LIRR's update on X.
