Looking for Independence Day fireworks and missed the earlier shows? Haverstraw has a show at around 9:30 p.m. July 2 (with a July 3 rain date) at Bowline Park, and you can view from behind the Lady Warren Hose Co. #5 firehouse during the volunteer department's wing night! Fireworks shows are slated for the July 3 and July 4 Boulders games. Around 9 p.m. July 4, Nyack hosts a fireworks show with people gathering at Memorial Park in Nyack (bring a chair or blanket — and bonus, you likely will also see displays at Tarrytown and Irvington across the river).

And if you're planning on heading upstate over the holiday weekend, there's now a take-a-break option when you're so close to home yet Thruway traffic makes it seem so far. The southbound Ramapo service station has reopened after a major overhaul. The northbound rest stop remains closed for renovations, but you can fill up the gas tank there before you head out. Get the details here.
