DENTON, Texas — The City of Denton is on the brink of implementing Stage 2 drought measures as water demands continue to surge. If water usage surpasses 38 million gallons for a third consecutive day, Stage 2 drought measures will be enforced starting tomorrow, Aug. 20, according to a press release from the city. U12 Lady Katz win division at 44th annual Bob Wiseman soccer tournament
The U12 Lady Katz started their season this past weekend playing in the 44th annual Bob Wiseman soccer tournament in Lewisville. They competed in four matches. They scored a total of 33 goals and allowed 1 goal all tournament. They finished the tournament with first place in their division. The Lady Katz were lead by forwards Hadley Carrier, Gabby Evetts, Mavery Salazar and Alexzandria Mendoza. Key to the Lady Katz success in scoring were their midfielders Georgie McCuller, VeAni Snyder and Goldie Stegemoller. The Lady Katz defenders were Tatum Still, Bri Berniard, Autumn Hall and Callie Garza and goalie, Harlow Mark. The Lady Katz are coached by Jeremy Still, Brian Carrier and Carly Person. They will compete in the Brownwood Tournament on September 7 and then start season play with Centex Soccer Association September 14.
Texas Woman’s University receives $30 million for college of business
Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in Denton has announced a $30 million gift from alumna Merrilee Alexander Kick (’09) in support of its college of business. The single largest gift ever awarded to the university will fund an institute focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, an endowed chair, and an entrepreneur-in-residence program, all of which will be named for Kick, including the college. In addition, the funding, which pushed TWU over its $125 million goal for its Dream Big campaign—two years ahead of schedule—will fast-track plans to construct a new building for the college.
