Anderson County Commissioner Aaron Wells has proudly announced his candidacy for election to represent the Sixth District, located in Oak Ridge.

Appointed in May 2023 to succeed former Commissioner Catherine Denenberg, "Wells has since exemplified steadfast leadership and unwavering commitment to his constituents," stated the news release announcing his candidacy. "As a common-sense conservative, small business owner, loving husband to Melissa, and dedicated father of Henry and Maggie, Wells brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his role in serving the community.

"Since assuming office, Commissioner Wells has been a driving force for positive change in the Sixth District. Notable among his achievements is the successful procurement of $125,000 in funding for the Scarboro 85 Monument project, a testament to his dedication to preserving the rich heritage of our region. Additionally, his fervent support for education and public safety has been evident through his efforts to fully fund our schools and law enforcement agencies," the release stated.

For over 20 years, Wells has been a steadfast volunteer and leader for the Oak Ridge Boys and Girls Club, embodying the spirit of giving back to our community and supporting our youth.

Furthermore, Commissioner Wells is actively engaged in various committees within the Anderson County Commission, including the Legislative, Audit, Budget, Non-Profit, Human Resources, and Intergovernmental committees, among others.

"His comprehensive involvement in these committees underscores his dedication to ensuring effective governance and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars," the release stated.

"Recognizing the importance of investing in our future, Commissioner Wells has prioritized infrastructure improvements for educational institutions. By securing funding for improvements to Linden Elementary School, he has demonstrated a proactive approach to providing our children with a conducive learning environment.

"Commissioner Wells' leadership is grounded in a deep understanding of the issues facing the Sixth District and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of its residents. His ability to listen to constituents' concerns and translate them into actionable solutions sets him apart as a trusted representative of the community," the release stated.

Wells’ campaign is proud to have Dr. Paul Szluha of the McArthur Animal Hospital in Oak Ridge serving as treasurer.

“Aaron is the perfect advocate for the people of the Sixth District. He does, and will continue to work tirelessly for them” Dr. Szluha is quoted as saying in the release. "After securing the Republican nomination in March, Wells will be on the General Election ballot on Aug. 1. Early voting begins July 12.
