The country music community is mourning the loss of William "Rusty" Golden, a talented singer-songwriter who passed away at the age of 65. Rusty Golden, the son of William Lee Golden of The Oak Ridge Boys, left his earthly body on July 1 at the age of 65.

Rusty Golden was born into a family deeply rooted in music. His father, William Lee Golden, is a legendary figure in country and gospel music, best known as a member of The Oak Ridge Boys. Rusty followed in his father's footsteps, carving out his own path in the industry with a blend of talent, passion, and dedication that earned him respect and admiration.

Per the press release, Rusty was proficient at playing the drums by age 12.  He furthered his interest in music by exploring songwriting after indulging in his grandparents love of poetry.

In 1972, Rusty attended an Elton John concert and his path immediately changed.  He took to learning the piano and by 17 years old he was touring with Larry Gatlin.

Rusty went on to be a part of or found several different bands including "The Boys Band" which released their first album in 1982. During this time, Rusty was finding more success by being a songwriter.  He had penned songs for his father's Oak Ridge Boys group and was earning money from proceeds of their albums.

Rusty's musical journey continued by being a member of the country rock band The Goldens, which he formed with his brother Chris Golden. The band enjoyed moderate success and further highlighted Rusty's talents as a musician and vocalist. Their work was characterized by a unique blend of country, rock, and gospel influences, reflecting the diverse musical environment in which Rusty was raised.

Rusty performed on the The Grand Ole Opry stage many times throughout his career.

Rusty's father issued a statement addressing the death of his beloved son.

“This is the hardest thing ever for a father to have to face. I love my family more than anything. Rusty was a great musician, a talented songwriter, and a wonderful son. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the days ahead. I love you, son.”
